How to check if an AI summary is accurate

By the Luminar team ยท Updated

Short answer: use a summarizer that shows where each point came from, then check the points you plan to use: numbers, names, quotes and strong claims. It takes a few minutes and catches most mistakes.

1. Look for sources on every point

A summary you cannot check is a guess. Pick a tool that links each point back to the part of the video, article or file it came from.

2. Check the numbers

Numbers are the easiest thing to get wrong and the most damaging. Open the source for every figure you plan to repeat.

3. Check names and quotes

Make sure the right person said the right thing. Summaries sometimes give a guest's words to the host, or the other way round.

4. Watch for missing limits

Original sources often say "in some cases" or "early results". Summaries tend to drop these. If a claim sounds stronger than you expected, check the source.

5. Ask a follow up question

Ask the summary a direct question about the point you doubt. In Luminar, the answer comes with the place in the source it is based on, so you can see it for yourself.
