YouTube summarizer
Summarize any YouTube video in minutes
Paste a YouTube link and get the main points as a short, cited briefing. Every point links back to the part of the video it came from, so you can check it.
How it works
Paste the link
Copy the video's address from YouTube and paste it into Luminar. Or press Summarize right under the video with the Chrome extension.
Luminar watches for you
It reads the video's transcript and pulls out the ideas that matter, in order.
Read, listen or keep
Get a short briefing with sources. Save it to your library, listen to it, or share it.
What it is good for
Lectures and courses
Get the outline of a long class before you watch, or review it after.
Podcasts and interviews
See what was said and who said it without sitting through two hours.
Talks and explainers
Pull the key claims out of a conference talk and check each one.
Research and news
Keep up with channels you follow without falling behind.
What you get with every briefing
A briefing is more than a block of text. It is short, it shows where each point came from, and it stays with you.
Every point cited
Each point in the briefing links back to the part of the source it came from, so you can check it in one tap.
Saved to your library
Briefings stay in your library. Sort them into collections and come back to them later.
Listen instead
Have any briefing read aloud when you would rather listen than read.
Share or download
Send a link to the short version, or download the briefing as a PDF.
Your language
Read the briefing in 16 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Diagrams when they help
When the source compares things, follows a timeline or explains a process, the briefing can include a simple diagram.
Questions
Which YouTube videos work?
Most videos with speech work. Luminar reads the spoken words, so a video with no speech or no transcript may not work.
How long can the video be?
On the free plan, audio and video summaries can be up to 20 minutes each. Paid plans include 10 or 40 hours of audio and video a month.
Can I check the summary against the video?
Yes. Each point is cited. Tap the number to see where in the source it came from.
Do I need the extension?
No. The web app works from a link. The Chrome extension adds a Summarize button right under YouTube videos.
Is it free?
Yes, you can start free with no card. The free plan includes 20 summaries a month, of which 3 can be audio or video up to 20 minutes each. Paid plans start at $8 a month billed annually and add more audio and video hours.
