How to summarize a meeting recording

By the Luminar team ยท Updated

Short answer: turn the recording into text, then pull out three things: what was decided, who does what next, and open questions. An AI summarizer can do both steps from the audio file.

1. Turn the audio into text

Reading a transcript is much faster than listening back. Many call tools can make one, or you can upload the audio file to a summarizer that listens to it for you.

2. Pull out the decisions

Most of a meeting is discussion. What people need afterwards is short: what was decided and why. Write each decision as one line.

3. List who does what

Write every next step with a name and a date. This is the part people forget, and the part that matters most.

4. Keep the open questions

Note anything that was raised but not settled. It becomes the start of the next meeting.

5. Let AI do the first draft

Upload the recording to Luminar and you get a short summary you can read or listen to, with each point linked to the moment it was said. Check the decisions against the recording before you send them to the team. On the free plan, audio files can be up to 30 minutes each.
