YouTube summary AI Chrome extension: what to look for

By the Luminar team ยท Updated

Short answer: pick an extension that puts the summary right on the YouTube page, shows the minute each point came from, works in your language, and only sends the video to its servers when you ask. Try two on the same video before you decide.

Five things to check

  1. Where it lives. A button under the video is faster than copying links into another site.
  2. Timestamps. You should be able to click a point and jump to that moment.
  3. Languages. Some only write in English. Luminar writes in 16 languages.
  4. Privacy. Read what it reads and when. Luminar only sends a page to its servers when you press Summarise.
  5. Free plan. Most have one with limits. Check how many videos a month you get.

How the Luminar extension works

  1. Add Luminar to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open any YouTube video and press Summarise under it.
  3. Read the summary, jump to any minute, ask a question, or save it to your library.

The same button also works on long articles and blog posts.
